Dr. Dhiego Bastos is a Clinical Fellow in Image-guided Neurosurgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He completed his medical school training at Federal University of Para, Brazil, and his neurosurgery residency training at State University of Campinas, Brazil, where he also obtained a Master’s Degree in Neurological Sciences and worked as an attending neurosurgeon. He spent three years at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow working with pre-operative brain mapping using Navigated Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy for the treatment of brain and spine tumors.
Dr. Bastos’s research focuses on advanced techniques to safely treat brain tumors. He is particularly interested in the use of Intraoperative MRI and Intraoperative Ultrasound to guide resection, as well as pre-operative and Intraoperative brain mapping techniques to enhance the understanding of functional anatomy and improve surgical results.
Outside neurosurgery, Dr. Bastos enjoys cooking, reading, playing tennis and traveling through New England.
