Associate Professor of Radiology
Lauren’s research focuses on diffusion magnetic resonance imaging, the only method that can map the connections of the living human brain. Her background is in computer science, with degrees from MIT, and she is currently Assistant Professor in Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Lauren’s research group develops new computational technology to study the human brain. She has developed machine learning technology that enables discovery of thousands of unique white matter brain connections that are found very robustly in large groups of subjects. Her recent work includes novel methods for statistical and machine learning analyses of the entire white matter for neuroscience research, as well as the automated detection of crucial fiber tract connections for neurosurgical planning. Her group’s open-source software, SlicerDMRI, is currently downloaded over 250 times per month.
